About the Work
LANDSCAPE, STILL LIFE & SPONTANEOUS VISTAS
Paul’s paintings have a highly distinctive quality of realism combined with a fluid interpretation, a rare combination in watercolour. "I have an affinity and love for the countryside, coast and nature and the peace, stillness and solitude to be found there. The qualities of watercolour feel natural to me and suit my painting in ways that other media do not. I paint scenes, objects and atmospheres that excite me inside, make me happy, and instil those feelings of peace and stillness and express part of who I am."

ENTHEOS* & EINFUHLUNG*
"Creating these pieces of work is a rather meditative, contemplative act and contemplation is something I would hope to evoke in those viewing the work. We all benefit from aesthetic pleasure and the inspiriation it provides and it is known that beauty and symmetry are intrinsic to nature and natural selection and are beneficial to our well-being on many levels.
Though the work is endogenous and intuitive there are definite themes and sources I refer to, use and reflect in my work. Numbers, number sequences, patterns and geometry all excite me. Whether the Golden Ratio, prime numbers, polygon sequences or the Fibonacci series (seen throughout nature as a source of strength, symmetry and pattern) numbers and mathematics are a great source of inspiration and beauty."
*Entheos - a feeling of possession by or the presence of the divine.
*Einfuhlung (German) - ‘feeling into’ or empathy.
